Meet our key person: Trevor Miles, Area Manager in the United Kingdom
The next person to be introduced is Trevor Miles, the R8 Technologies Area Manager in the United Kingdom. Despite his busy schedule, we were lucky to have a short interview with him and got to know about his background and insights into how the R8 Digital Operator can really make a difference in the UK market.
R8 Technologies entered the United Kingdom market in September 2021 and Trevor has been our man in the UK from the very beginning. And by the way, in September 2021 we also received a Tech Rocketship Award by Invest in Great Britian. It was magnificient, as there were in total an 630 tech entries from 30 countries across Europe and Israel! We won the Great Tech for Change category and won bronze in the event’s Grand Finale.
Trevor, please tell us about a bit how it started for you and your thoughts regarding the sustainability and energy efficiency perspectives.
“I was invited to join R8 Technologies in September 2021 as the first UK team member. This coincided with our UK launch at the Smart Building Show at the Excel Centre. It was great to see first-hand, how much interest and excitement the R8 Digital Operator was attracting. Some delegates were literally coming back to the stand time and time again to find out more about it!
The UK is a large market – the second largest in Europe after Germany, with an investment value of approximately £8.5Bn. As the birthplace of the industrial revolution, I think we do have a significant responsibility to take a lead in addressing climate change.
What is your previous experience and current perspective?
“Before joining R8 I had a long involvement in the UK commercial property world, beginning as a surveyor with one of the predecessor companies of CBRE. From there, I went into the world of management consultancy, advising large corporates and government bodies on corporate real estate and facilities management. IBM acquired the company that I was working for and I became the UK smart buildings consulting lead. This enabled me to witness first-hand the advent of the IOT, AI and the smart buildings era.
COP26 and recent climate change related events have further reinforced my personal conviction that we need to make major changes to the way that we live and work. I’m now very happy to be working for a company which is making a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions and improving the quality of the work environment.”
